Jean Joins Congressman Johnson to Discuss Funding Freeze

amber975

Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) held a town hall on Jan. 31 with local nonprofit leaders discussing the federal funding freeze and its impact on our communities.

Jean Douglas, the executive director of Women’s Resource Center to End Domestic Violence, said the nonprofit community is feeling a lot of “uncertainty.”
“We’ve been providing services to the community since 1986. The services we provide are critical services that are usually emergency services for women and children escaping domestic violence,” said Douglas.
She said about 60 percent of their funding comes from federal funds and grants.
“It’s the uncertainty going forward. Typically, when we sign grant agreements we feel good that those funds are guaranteed … and we can build our budget around that,” said Douglas. “The need doesn’t go away. Since COVID, domestic violence in our community has increased substantially.”
